Richards Bay

Richards Bay is fantastically situated for all kinds of entertainments for everyone, from the most adventurous to the more leisurely holidaymaker. At Tussen die Maroelas we are surrounded by restaurants, including a well-known breakfast/burger chain within easy walking distance, plus pizza, burger and fish take-aways just a block away in the shopping centres shown on our location map. Close by are restaurants of all kinds,
from casual to high-class, and a short distance further is the main Richards Bay CBD, with its cinemas, shops and a wide variety of eateries. Alkantstrand Beach, with its prominent Life Guard Station, is in
close reach. Surfers and kite-surfers alike love this area, and just around the corner is a lagoon in which kite- boarding and peddaloes prevail, overlooked by the Zululand Yacht Club with its palm trees, green lawns and gorgeous sailboats.

Meerensee is a boating enthusiast’s paradise. Canoes, kayaks, sailing, power-boats, jet skis, dinghies, hobies, rubber ducks … all are available here. And when you tire of the small stuff, dash round to Tuzi Gazi harbour and watch our tug boats at work with the huge cargo vessels that visit. We’ve also become a popular destination for international passenger liners, and watching them dock, all lit up at night, is an experience not to be missed! Fishing charters and sailing trips can also be arranged.

In our lush tropical surroundings wildlife abounds. It’s just a short drive to several world-famous game reserves, crocodile farms, the renowned St.Lucia wetlands, bird parks, and an aerial boardwalk and nature museum. Scuba diving is a dream in the marine reserves to the north.

To the south lies Durban, a two-hour drive through the “green gold” of Natal – the sugar cane fields. Inland is the famed Valley of a Thousand Hills, and myriad historical battlefields and museums. Other attractions include uShakaland, where the film Shaka Zulu was made, and a variety of ethnic craft centres. And for the sports lover there is golf, fishing, swimming, horse riding and polo,
triathlons and marathons, and much much more. Get here by ‘plane, coach, bus, train, car, or by sea – we think you’ll like it here.
We do!
